Frontier Times Museum honors Founding Family

The Frontier Times Museum board Of Trustees and staff hosted Richard & Peggy (Doane) Calvert and Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Healy on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Museum Thomas Healy is Secretary Treasurer of the Doane foundation which is cited by a Historic Marker situated at the entrance of the Museum. The marker is a tribute to Mr. Doane's purchase and subsequently retaining the Museum as an entity. Instead of dispersing the collections Mr. Doane and his wife Sandra Doane Turk bequeathed the Museum to the Frontier Times Board of Directors in 1972.

Colonel Bob Perry, Museum President presented them with an official citation for establishing the Museum as an entity and for their continued support since 1972. Their generous support has contributed substantially to the cultural and historical enjoyment of the old west by the residents of Bandera County and visitors throughout the world The were also presented with several books detailing the history of Bandera and the Museum. J. Marvin Hunter, founder of the Museum and of The Bandera Bulletin newspaper sold books during the depression to fund the original building completed in 1932. Mr. Doane's delightful paintings are part of the permanent collection and are part of the permanent collection in the rear gallery His daughter Mrs. Peggy( Doane) Calvert will honor the museum with an exhibition of her art this fall. The frontier Times Museum has been designated as one of the best museums in the state of Texas in Texas Monthly Magazine. The museum is located one block north of the Courthouse on 13th street.
